My father's maternal grandparents, Conrad and Marie Eva (nee Moeller) Kress moved from Michelsrombach, Hesse, Germany to Bochum, Hesse, Germany and then emigrated to Medford (Taylor Co.), Wisconsin in 1882. The Kress surname seems to have originally been Greß when Adolfus Greß (Abt. 1745-1799) lived in Buechenberg, Hesse. Other surnames in this line are Fladung, Fey (not connected to the Feys in the Hartman line), Freundenthal, Friesenhahn, Sauer, Driessen, Bachhuber. |

My father's paternal grandparents emigrated separately before they were married. Jacques (Jacob) Hartmann came from Roppeviller, France (part of the Moselle region of the Lorraine province) in 1871. Christine Fey came from Breidenbach, France (also part of the Moselle region of the Lorraine province) about 1879. They married in New York City in 1882 and moved to Medford, Wisconsin soon after. Ancestors with the Hartmann surname lived in Emerlanden (Parish of Urlau), Baden-Württemberg (now part of Germany) prior to emigrating to Roppeviller in about 1738. Other surnames in this line are Judas, Bell, Heckel, Seiler, Leichtnam, Driessen, Bachhuber. |
